This November, the Australia baseball team Adelaide Giants visited Chiayi City for the games against the Taiwan WC Dragons Baseball.
As the host of Taiwan, the WC Dragons Baseball and Chiayi City Government arranged few activities for the Giants after games, and our team - Perception of Chiayi was responsible for being the translator and tour guide for them.
They were brought to Wen-Hua Road Night Market exploring the foods and shops on the street on Sunday night. Before the night market tour, everyone had turkey rice, satay fish, Taiwan traditional black tea and beer at Smart Fish. They also had “Dou Hua (soy pudding or tofu pudding)” as the dessert.
These big boys were curious about the dishes; they said they never had these foods hence they kept asking us many questions about the food during dinner. Everything is new and interesting to them. Moreover, the cheap, nice and flavorful Taiwanese beer impressed them very much.
We stopped in an amusement arcade because boys were attracted by video games; in particular, the VR racing game extremely amazed them. Many passersby came and asked for taking photos with them together when boys walked on the street.
Although these “Giants” stayed in Chiayi for only 3 days, they feel Taiwanese people are very enthusiastic and hospitable. They also told us that they hope we can hold more games between Taiwan and Australia so that they can come to Taiwan again!
